is a versatile musician who is excited and proud to have joined the Des Moines Metro Opera company as Principal Trumpet.
Katie has also toured with this nation's top female brass quintet, Seraph Brass. Seraph is a dynamic and virtuosic ensemble who is dedicated to “engaging audiences with captivating programming... including original transcriptions, newly commissioned works, and well known classics.” Seraph is very proud to be a part of the “highly acclaimed touring roster of Allied Concert Services and will perform two extensive tours of the Mid West in the 2016-17 Season. Seraph will also be the featured ensemble at the 2017 International Women’s Brass Conference and at the Lieksa Brass Week in Finland.”
Previously she was teaching and freelancing in Los Angeles where she mainly worked on Latin America's #1 late night talk show, Estrella TV's Noches con Platanito. You can watch the show on Hulu.
Katie has performed with San Francisco Symphony, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Modesto Philharmonic, Fresno Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic, and others. Katie has worked with artists including Kanye West, Enya, Charles Dutoit and most recently Adele.
She has won several national and international competitions including placing 1st in both the Graduate Division in 2010 and Undergraduate 2008 Division, and 2nd in the 2009 Graduate Division at the National Trumpet Competition. She was a semi-finalist in the Budapest International Trumpet Competition, Prague International Competition and the Olga Koussevitzky Young Artists Awards Competition. In summer 2010, she placed 3rd in the Jeju International Brass Competition and performed with the Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland.
Katie graduated from Juilliard in both her graduate and undergraduate studies with Mark Gould and Raymond Mase. She also worked with Mark Inouye at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Katie currently resides in Oceanside, California with her Fiance and their cat.
